The Last Starfighter Interview

First of all, thank you for taking time out to talking with Wreckhouse Magazine today! Let’s start with your beginnings. How did The Last Starfighter get their start?

Me (Roman) and one of my friends decided to make the nuttiest most insane music that we could for the Connerstone improv stage. We played mostly feedback and broke things. We have had a few different members since then, including my sister who married the guitar player....we were like the Partridge Family without the groovy bus. The current line-up is the best Starfighter EVER.

What made you want to form a band?

The episode of Boy Meets World where Cory and Shawn Started a band to get chicks, but they couldn't play anything.

Who influenced you?

The Who, Skynyrd, Zep, Petra, Whiteheart, DC talk, Newsboys, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Deftones, Hatebreed, Dora the Explorer.

What goes into the writing process for you?

Late nights, Vitamin water, tacos, life, creativity and compromise.

Any experiences you write about specifically?

Almost everything we write about is from experience. 22cent solution is about a TL*F fan from Baytown who killed himself. The Greys is about alien abduction.

I noticed looking on your MySpace that you’ve toured with a lot of bands, including Sounds of the Underground, and both Family Values Tours. Can you tell us about those experiences?

Those shows were super duper cool. When you play big shows like that, they give you towels.

I personally saw and met you guys at Family Values 07 and saw how personable you are with your fans, and how energetic your live show is. How important do you think it is to get the fans involved in shows?

VERY important. We hope everyone feels like a part of Starfighter. It is a giant family. We want every single person to take away something from the show that they didn't have before; i.e. broken drum stick, a hug, warm fuzzies, bloody nose.

Are there any downsides to that?

Every now and then, someone doesn't have a good sense of humor and get mad when you get Vitamin water on them, or wipe sweat on their girlfriend, but most people know what to expect at at SF show.

What artists are you just dying to hit the road with?

Cromwell, Eldridge, Aerosmith, Side Soh-in.

When you’re not touring or writing, what do you guys like to do to unwind?

Ride bicycles, play NBA Jam.

Since we also cover horror movies and comics, are there any that you guys love?

Event Horizon and Spider Man.

What’s on the horizon for The Last Starfighter?

Complete global domination, and maybe some ice cream.

Where can our readers see The Last Starfighter?

Birthday parties, Quiencenieras, gas stations, Wendy's, on the side of hwy 73 with no gas, and youtube. Check the myspace for shows too.
